Detection of the tipper of truck when leaving a construction site
A truck moves materials from place A to B day in day out. If a destination is reached the materials should be unloaded on a construction site. Then the truck is picking up a new cargo. However it is possible that the driver of the truck forgets that the cargo box, also called tipper, of the truck is still in tilt position when leaving the construction site. This causes dangerous situations of even accidents.
To prevent this, a distance laser (proximity sensor) is positioned when entering and leaving the construction site. This sensor detects whether the tipper or cargo box is stil in tilt position. This sensor is placed at the entrance/exit of the construction site and detects the maximum height of the tipper. If the tipper is open an alarm / warning is sent out for the driver.
LAM distance lasers from Sensor Partners
The LAM 52.1 is an industrial distance laser with a range up to 150 meter on a reflector and 30 meter directly on the truck. In this way, it is possible to detect from one side if the truck tipper is open. The digital output makes it possible to indicate if an object is located at a specific position. So this sensor can detect from a big distance if the tipper of the truck is still in tilt position or that the truck can just continue. With the IP65 protection degree the sensor can be used in the open air on and around the construction site.
The LAM 71.101 is also a very fast and compact industrial distance laser. It delivers unique performance and flawlessly detects the clipper's open loading bay, even at higher speeds. In addition, in proximity mode (i.e., without a reflector), this sensor can directly detect a truck 70 meters away. This allows a wider passage to be monitored. With its IP67 sealing rating, the sensor can be used outdoors on and around the construction site. In addition, the sensor continues to function fine in cold conditions, down to -40 °C! An additional advantage is laser class 1, i.e. eye safe.
